DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE

INTRODUCTION

Department of Commerce started functioning from the inception of the college. The department imparts quality commerce education at UG and PG levels. The department presently offers MCom, BCom, BBA, and BCA courses. The certificate courses offered by college could be pursued simultaneously with UG and PG courses. In order to compliment the conventional education department has initiated value inputs by teaming up with Microsoft and Tally. College is having to its credit Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) accredited CA-CPT course.

The Management Science stream is started from the year 2011 under this department. It offers BBA and BCA courses with different subjects to help students acquire the required skill in the management and Information Technology. The BBA course aims to provide managerial knowledge and abilities that helps students acquire proficiency in the art of business. The department prepares students for CET examination required for taking admission in MBA course. The BCA course prepares students in computer applications.

To provide commerce and management education of contemporary relevance, the department make use of ICT enabled teaching-learning tools and resources to make educational experience of students interesting. PPT, video presentations, inputs from professionals, exposure visits, workshops, seminars, etc. are routine features of the department.

The faculty members are having to their credit good number of research publications in the form of books, articles, monographs, etc. The department takes efforts to provide sound academic background for its students but apart from this also train them in life skills and provide experience that will equip them in their pursuit for higher careers and employability. It is a matter of proud privilege for us to have illustrious alumni who have made their mark in society.

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Political Science was established along with the college in 1963. Initially the courses in Civics at Pre-university level and Political Science at BA level were introduced. Later Public Administration was introduced in 1965. The eminent teachers of Political Science like Dr. V. S. Joshi, Dr. S.N. Datye, Dr. V. L. Deshpande, Dr. R. A. Dhoble and Dr. V. B. Pawar were the faculties in the department. Presently the department is headed by Dr. N.B. Aghav who is also Associate NCC officer of the college unit. The faculty members have continuously shown keen interest in research. They have put in the best of their efforts to shape the department and gave it academic direction through their own specialization in different areas of the discipline. It has been academically very vigilant department. All the faculty members have directed their creative and critical potential to currently emerging trends in the discipline.

The department has contributed significantly by supervising research students for MPhil and PhD. So far students who obtained MPhil degrees are 20 and PhD are 12. Presently 04 students are pursuing PhD. The department has organized seminars with financial assistance from UGC. Faculty members have published research articles, books besides undertaking research projects and participation in seminars and conferences. There is very good collection of books on Political Science in the library. The department has prepared PPTs for teaching. Guest lectures, study tours, group discussions, seminars, career counseling for competitive examinations, etc are organized as annual features of the department.

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Sociology is one of the oldest departments in the college. It started functioning in 1963. Sociology is taught at the undergraduate level. Gender Studies, Sociology of Education, and Social Movements are the focused research areas of the department. ‘Learning through Experience’ is the basic principle of the department. Hence the department has organized various innovative programmes. The department is engaged in student centric and research oriented activities. The field based student projects are mandatory components of the course syllabus. Networks are established with voluntary groups for the exposure to the students. The department is making efforts to inculcate socio-cultural values among the students and is improving the social and research skills of them. The department also focuses and emphasizes on the societal understanding and analytical skills of students.

Sociology is of great importance in the solution of social problems. The present world is suffering from many problems which can be solved through scientific study of the society. It is the task of Sociology to study social problems through the methods of scientific research and to find out solutions for them. There are also job opportunities like working as a sociologist, studying human society and social behavior, or studying various social, religious, political, and business organizations. Important Activities of the Department
  • 1. Daily News Analysis (DNA) - Students discuss daily news and express their views and opinions regarding social issues.
  • 2. Seminar by students – Students are involving in writing papers and presenting them in the seminar organised by the department at the end of each term or semester.
  • 3. Field visits- The department organizes field visits to Old Age Home, Central Jail and other NGO’s which are working on social problems.
  • 4. Field studies- The department is involving students in field studies to improve their observation skills.
  • 5. Book Reviews- Students present book reviews on classic books of sociology.
  • 6. Essay Writing Competition - The department organizes an essay writing competition on contemporary social issues.

Dr. Snehalata Mankar, associate professor, is presently heading the department. She is engaging in research on the Social Movement in Maharashtra. Sandip Chaudhari, associate professor, is equally contributing to the overall development of the students and is working on various research projects sponsored by UGC and Dr. BAMU, Aurangabad.

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Economics started to function from the day of the establishment of this college i.e. on 09 September 1963. This Department was started in the college with the objectives of developing economic approach and skill amongst the students, to enable them for economic analysis, to find logically the causes of economic backwardness, to help student develop their personalities and to make them employable. From June 2013 to 2017-18 approximately 165 to 170 students opted for 'Economics' and girls are in majority.

Prof. Dinkar Borikar, the former professor of this department went on to become President of SBES. The former faculty members of our department has contributed immensely by writing almost 50 books and articles in various weekly and monthly magazines and research journals. The teachers of the department have bagged around eleven awards till date, and a student Ms. Khalse Geeta Dynandev stood first in economics in University level in year 2016-17. Former Professor R. M. Rathi, P. R. Kulkarni, N. M. Apte, Dr. B. S. Gheware contributed in the development of the department. Presently the department is headed by Dr. M.M. Gaikwad.

Around 4000 reference books of Economics are available in the library and there are also many course books available. The reputed journals and magazines like 'Arthbodh', 'Arthmanthan', Arthsamwad', 'Indian Economic Journal', ‘RBI Bulletin’, 'International Journal of Development', 'Southern Economist', ‘Economic and Political Weekly', etc are made available consistently in the library. We organize ‘Economics books exhibition’ every year in the college.

On behalf of the department of Economics various reputed economist of National and International repute have visited the college for delivering lectures on different topics. Every year department organises discussion on central and state budgets. In addition to the lecture method we make use of group discussions, seminars, class-tests, etc in the teaching process. We also organise workshop on 'How to Write a Project Report' for BATY students so that they could prepare research project on various problems required for partial fulfilment of their degree. The department also organise practical experience based, recreational-educational tour for students.

During the last five years i.e. from 2012-13 to 2016-17, the average result of BAFY, SY and TY was 85%, 90.2% and 98% respectively. Students who stand first in Economics in HSC and BASY are awarded with prizes. The teachers in the department are actively involved in research work. Under their guidance around 16 students have completed MPhil and 04 students are pursuing PhD. Many of our alumni are working successfully in various fields as teachers, professors, advocates, social workers. They are also successfully working in administration and in the field of politics. They are contributing in the making of an ideal society.

Public administration is of great significance to every citizen in the contemporary society. In its broader context, the ends of administration are the ultimate object of the state itself – the maintenance of peace and order, the progressive achievement of justice, the instruction of the young, protection against diseases and insecurity, the adjustment and compromise of conflicting groups and interests, in short the attainment of good life. Apart from the relevance of the subject it is one of the most sought after optional subject by the civil services aspirants in our country.

History department came into being since the establishment of the college. History is sought optional subject because of its popularity among the students preparing for the competitive examinations. Department helps aspirant of this examination. The department is also actively involved in research. Former professors enriched the department by doing basic and valuable research. INTRODUCTION

Music is a subject having great significance. Music is not only the phenomenon of sound but the combination of individual and group of sound effects on the social concurrence. It is a subject which provides the right vision to students in combining the sound for the integrity of mind. It provides solace to our heart.

The department had as its head renowned classical vocalist Pt. Nathrao Neralkar, Prof. Shivram Gosavi and presently is headed by Dr. Sanjay Mohad.

This department has three years degree course which is very basic and important in developing the students for PG level. In this graduate level course students get acquainted with the basic concepts and principles in Music.

They include Kavita Krushnamurti, Asha Bhosale, Suresh Wadkar, Hariharan, Sawani Shende, Bela Shende, Ravindra Sathe, Sadhana Sargam, Arati Ankalikar, Raghunandan Panshikar, Manjusha Patil, Shubha Joshi, Shounak Abhisheki, etc.

INTRODUCTION

Art, in any form, literature or painting, music or performing art, is an integral part of culture. The direction of art, in-fact, indicates the socio-moral, intellectual and cultural directions of a country. As an authentic medium of pleasure and instruction, art is a continual quest for meaning and order in life. It generates awareness and tickles the consciousness of people. Drama can also be used as a medium of social transformation. The department of Dramatics was established in 1977-78. Gradually the subject gained appreciation and encouragement from the students and public at large. Late Dr. Laxman Deshpande was the first Head of the department. Later on Dr. Dilip Ghare, Mr. Y.V. Deshmukh and Mr. A.M. Kherde joined the department, presently Mr. Kishore Shirsat is working as Head of the department.

The department of dramatics is a solitary one in the entire university to have a separate building. It is fully equipped with sophisticated paraphernalia. It has three class rooms, an office and a mini theatre with 200 chairs. The auditorium has all essential facilities like stage, sound cabin, sound system, green room, projector and necessary means and material for lighting, setting, make-up, video-cassettes, CD’s of productions, photograph and models of production etc.

मराठी भाषा व साहित्य विभाग

स. भु. महाविद्यालयाच्या स्थापनेबरोबरच म्हणजे १९६३ साली मराठी भाषा व साहित्य विभाग सुरु झाला. मुळातच १९१५ साली स.भु.शिक्षण संस्थेची स्थापना मराठी माध्यमातून शिक्षण देण्यासाठी झालेली होती. त्यामुळे उच्च शिक्षणात सुरु झालेल्या ‘मराठी भाषा व साहित्या’च्या या विभागाकडून सर्वांनाच चांगल्या कामगिरीची अपेक्षा होती. विद्यार्थ्यांची वैचारिक क्षमता व भाषिक कौशल्यांचा कालानुरूप विकास करत आणि साहित्य, समाज व मानवी जीवन याबाबत मूल्यनिष्ठ संवेदन जोपासत गेली ५४ वर्षे मराठी विभाग या अपेक्षा पूर्ण करत आलेला आहे. आज सर्व आधुनिक साधनांनी सुसज्ज झालेल्या या विभागात विद्यार्थी ज्ञानार्जन करत आहेत.

  • • विद्यार्थ्यांना उपलब्ध संधी - द्वितीय भाषा मराठी व ऐच्छिक मराठीच्या वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण अभ्यासक्रमातून भाषा, बोली, विभिन्न वाड्मय प्रकारांची ओळख होऊन विद्यार्थ्याची साहित्य-समीक्षेच्या क्षेत्रात वावरण्याची तयारी होते. विविध प्रसारमाध्यमांसाठी लेखन व काम करण्याची क्षमता विकसित होते. व्यापक व सखोल अभ्यासाने स्पर्धा परीक्षेची तयारी होते.सातत्याने ८५ ते ९० % निकालाची परंपरा असलेल्या या विभागात अभ्यासपूरक उपक्रम मोठ्या प्रमाणावर चालतात. विविध तज्ज्ञांची व्याख्याने, चर्चा, मुलाखती, कार्यशाळा याबरोबरच ‘रूपक’, ‘स्वरमराठी’, ‘अभंग सरस्वती’ यासारखे सर्जक कार्यक्रम विभागाने दिलेले आहेत.

हिंदी भाषा तथा साहित्य विभाग

स. भु. शिक्षण संस्था, औरंगाबाद की स्थापना वर्ष १९१५ में स्वभाषा शिक्षा प्रणाली के उदात्त उद्देश से हुई। इसी संस्था द्वारा संचालित हमारा स. भु. कला एवं वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय, औरंगाबाद है। जिसकी स्थापना सन् १९६३ में हुई। इसी महाविद्यालय का हिस्सा हिंदी विभाग है। हमारा हिंदी विभाग पिछले ५४ वर्षों से अनवरत छात्रों में साहित्य आस्वादन, अभिरुचि का परिसंस्कार, साहित्य सृजन, चिंतन, विभिन्न कौशलों का विकास, जीवन मूल्यों के प्रति गहरी आस्था तथा संवेदना का संस्कार करता आ रहा है। आज भी अद्यावत साधन सामग्री से सुसज्जित इस विभाग में छात्र बड़ी लगन के साथ ज्ञानार्जन, अध्ययन-अध्यापन एवं अनुसंधान कर रहे हैं।

  • • विश्वविद्यालयों के पाठयक्रम मंडल तथा ‘बाल भारती अभ्यास समिति’ के सदस्य के रूप में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा है।
  • • हिंदी भाषा और साहित्य लेखन, प्रकाशन, अनुसंधान, यू.जी.सी.बृहत शोध परियोजना, व्याख्यानों आदि के माध्यम से विभाग के प्राध्यापकों ने सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक, शैक्षिक एवं राष्ट्रीय एकात्मता के क्षेत्र में बहुमूल्य कार्य किया है।
  • • विभाग के प्राध्यापकों के ६० शोध आलेख, ३० पुस्तकें प्रकाशित हुई हैं, ८ पुस्तकों का सम्पादन किया है। साथ ही ‘गवाह’ नाम से साहित्य पत्रिका के भी बहुत सारे अंक प्रकाशित हुए हैं।
  • • अनेक छात्रों को पी-एच.डी तथा एम्.फिल उपाधि के लिए शोध मार्गदर्शक के रूप में मार्गदर्शन किया है।
  • • विभाग का समाचार पत्रों, साहित्यिक पत्र-पत्रिकाओं, आकाशवाणी तथा दूरदर्शन जैसे अनेक विध जनसंचार माध्यमों से हिंदी भाषा और साहित्य में उल्लेखनीय योगदान रहा है।
  • • अंतरराष्ट्रीय, राष्ट्रीय तथा प्रादेशिक स्तरीय साहित्य सम्मेलनों, परिचर्चाओं, संगोष्ठियों, कार्यशालाओं में स्त्रोत व्यक्ति, आलेख पाठक तथा विशेष सहभागिता के रूप में सक्रीय सहभागिता रही है।
  • • हिंदी भाषा और साहित्य के क्षेत्र में विख्यात संस्थाओं के विकास में सहभागिता दर्ज की है।
  • • विभाग के प्राध्यापकों को राष्ट्रीय तथा प्रादेशिक स्तर के पुरस्कारों से सन्मानित किया गया है।
  • • विभाग के छात्र द्वितीय भाषा हिंदी समेत ऐच्छिक हिंदी के कालानुरूप अभ्यासक्रम से भाषा कौशल, अनेक विध साहित्य विधाओं से परिचित होकर प्रशासन, साहित्य, समीक्षा, विज्ञापन, समाचार पत्र जैसे अनेक विध क्षेत्रों में अपना योगदान दे रहे हैं । ८० से ९० प्रतिशत सफल परीक्षा परिणामों की परम्परा इस विभाग की विशेषता है। विभिन्न विद्वानों के व्याख्यानों, चर्चाओं, साक्षात्कारों, कार्यशालाओं के साथ-साथ विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं का आयोजन इस विभाग की पहचान रही है।

INTRODUCTION

The department of English since inception of college in 1963 has played an important role in developing love and interest in English Language and literature amongst the students. The department boasts of an illustrious history of great teachers like Dr. Bhalchandra Nemade, Prin. V.V. Yardi, Dr. Shrikant Tambe, Dr. Mohan Baktul, Dr. S.M. Bhoomkar and others who are and were well-known authors, poets and translators. Presently Dr. Kajal Bhandari, Ms. Shital Maher, Dr. Amruta Wakle and Ms. Kushawarta Bhagwat are working in the department.

The department has always updated itself thereby meeting the demands of time. A number of significant trends in teaching –learning practices have emerged out of the concept of modern education. New materials and modes of instruction provide the students a rich environment necessary for gaining insight and understanding processes. With this view we established an ICT –enabled language lab (Language Lab model ACENT 5.1 SEII. Edition AV Network inclusive of Headsets, Terminals, Teachers AV Hub, VGA Network Course in Phonetics Software Edition 2010).This language lab is designed to be the starting point of a rich environment created to meet not only standard but also to encourage active perception, thinking and action. The student friendly content of the software offers basic grammar lessons, listening and pronunciation practice, tests etc. which create in the learner a readiness to learn and participate in teaching – learning activities at his pace. Students get an opportunity to learn ‘by doing’ and helped to do it in a playful manner.

The department has conducted ‘Spoken English Course’ for the teachers of different schools. We also offer ‘Certificate Course in Spoken English’ for students. Along with this we have a rich collection of around 5000 books in library. We even have a wonderful collection of films, dramas and PPTs based on curriculum

INTRODUCTION

SBES College of Arts and Commerce was established in year 1963. The Department of Physical Education was established at the same time. Since then the department is catering to the sporting needs of the students. It provides indoor sports facilities like, Table-Tennis, Chess, Badminton, Carom, Gymnastics and outdoor sports facilities like, Cricket, Volleyball, Athletics, Football, Kabaddi, and Kho-Kho.

To promote the sports awareness in the college the department conducts Intramural competition every year. The department is having to its credit 06 Alumnae recipients of Shivchhatrapati Puraskar.
